Designing personalisation of European public service media (PSM): trends on algorithms and artificial intelligence for content distribution

The migration of audiences to digital environments has motivated the media develop a content distribution strategy that presence in these new spaces. In case European public broadcasters, they have strengthened their news services and built video-on-demand platforms where organise screen products. Even so, overload information reaching users forces corporations look for mechanisms present an adequate, interesting diverse offering each followers. This research project analyses use artificial intelligence recommendation systems implemented by 14 broadcasters Germany (ARD ZDF), Belgium (VRT RTBF), Denmark (DR), Spain (RTVE), Finland (YLE), France (France TV), Great Britain (BBC), Netherlands (NPO), Ireland (RTÉ), Italy (RAI), Sweden (SVT) Switzerland (RTS). results reveal there is no unanimity among with regard operation origin systems, which vary between home-made developments, acquired from third parties, or collaborative solutions. Operators differentiate processes those executed on VoD aim distance commercial media, already started working service (PSM) algorithm includes traditional values, avoids filter bubbles, pays special attention General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
